Wie die meisten Kings Quest-Titel ist er auch ein Hinweis auf die Handlung: Prinzessin Rosella wird bald heiraten, landet aber kurz vor ihrer Hochzeit in einer anderen Welt. Es ist der einzige Titel in der Serie, in dem Königin Valanice in einer Hauptrolle zu sehen ist, und auch der einzige, in dem König Graham überhaupt nicht gezeigt oder erwähnt wird. Sierra vermarktete das Spiel als eine Verbesserung der Serie, indem er erklärte, dass die Fertigstellung früherer KQ-Abenteuer nicht notwendig sei, um das Spiel voll zu genießen, obwohl das letzte Kapitel eine starke Verbindung zu den Ereignissen von Kings Quest IV aufzeigte.
