Allemand Während der persische Sultan Krieg im Ausland führt, versucht sein Statthalter, der Wesir und Magier Jaffar, die Herrschaft an sich zu reißen. Dafür will er die Tochter des Sultans zwingen, ihn zu heiraten. Er sperrt sie in den Palastturm und droht sie zu töten, sollte sie nicht binnen einer Stunde in die Hochzeit einwilligen. Die einzige ernstzunehmende Gefahr für seinen Plan geht von der Spielfigur des ?Prinzen? aus, einem namenlosen Abenteurer und die wahre Liebe der Prinzessin. Damit dieser Jaffars Pläne nicht durchkreuzen kann, lässt er ihn ins Gefängnis werfen. Als Spieler muss man mit der Spielfigur innerhalb der von Jaffar eingeräumten Stunde Bedenkzeit aus dem Gefängnis entkommen, die Fallen und Wachen des Palasts überwinden und Jaffar töten, um die Prinzessin zu retten und durch die Heirat mit ihr zum ?Prince of Persia? zu werden.

Anglais Prince of Persia was originally released in 1989 for the Apple II by Jordan Mechner. Mechner used film of his younger brother David running, jumping, and performing many of the Prince's actions. Mechner then rotoscoped the film to create the animations that give the Prince his fluid movement.

Part of the game's appeal was its then unique focus on environmental puzzle-solving, as well as its one-on-one sword duels. Mechner has stated that the game was inspired by the first ten minutes of Raiders of the Lost Ark, for the character's acrobatics in a dangerous environment.

Prince of Persia has since been ported to a number of different platforms, including the Amiga, Apple Macintosh, DOS, NES, Game Boy, Sega Genesis, Game Gear, SNES, Sharp X68000, Atari ST, and SAM Coupé.

The music was written by Jordan Mechner's father, Francis Mechner.

Italien Prince of Persia è un gioco a piattaforme ambientato in Medio Oriente. Il giocatore controlla il Principe di Persia, che può camminare, correre, abbassarsi, saltare, aggrapparsi e combattere con le spade. L'obiettivo è completare tutti i livelli per liberare la principessa entro il tempo limite di un'ora. Ogni livello consiste in un dungeon sempre più grande con molte insidie (precipizi, lastre che cedono sotto i piedi, spuntoni che spuntano dal terreno).

Portugais Prince of Persia é um jogo de plataforma ambientado no Médio Oriente. O jogador controla o Príncipe da Pérsia que pode andar, correr, pato, saltar, agarrar-se e lutar com espadas. O objectivo é completar todos os níveis para libertar a princesa dentro do tempo limite de uma hora. Cada nível consiste numa masmorra cada vez maior com muitas armadilhas (precipícios, lajes que cedem por baixo dos pés, picos que saem do chão).
