Allemand Der Spieler kann die Spielwelt auf nichtlineare Weise erkunden. Zu jedem Zeitpunkt stehen drei Level zur Verfügung, die der Spieler in beliebiger Reihenfolge angehen kann. Jedes gelöste Level führt zu zwei weiteren.
In jedem Level muss der Spieler das fehlende Kartenstück finden, den Ausgang erreichen und den Endgegner des Levels besiegen. Chester kann auf die Köpfe seiner Gegner springen und sie so töten. Er stirbt mit einem Treffer, es sei denn, er hat ein Geparden-Snackpaket. In diesem Fall erhält er seine gesamte Gesundheit zurück.

Anglais Players must explore the entire United States looking for Cheetos to eat while either avoiding or defeating enemies. Levels include a ship, in front of a castle, under the sea, and inside the city. Each level comes with a time limit and each hit results in an "instant death" situation unless the Cheetos snacks have been consumed. The main adversary in the game is Mean Eugene; Chester's main adversary in the commercials.

Each level comes with a boss at the end and losing the game gives the players a limited number of continues along with a time limit to implement those continues. Both the Genesis and the Super NES versions of the game come with an option mode that allows players to alter their controls.

Chester the Cheetah vive no Four Corners Zoo junto com outros animais. Um dia, ele decide deixar o zoológico e procurar a lendária Hip City. Montado em sua confiável lambreta, com um mapa nas patas, Chester encontrou o bruto desagradável Mean Eugene. Fiel ao seu hábito de roubar e destruir coisas, Mean Eugene pegou o mapa de Chester, rasgou-o em pedaços e os espalhou por todos os Estados Unidos da América. Chester deve agora visitar vários locais no país para recuperar as partes do mapa e encontrar um caminho para Hip City.

O jogador pode explorar o mundo do jogo de forma não linear. A qualquer momento, existem três fases disponíveis e o jogador pode concluí-las em qualquer ordem. Cada fase concluída leva a outras duas. Em cada fase, o jogador deve encontrar a parte do mapa que falta, prosseguir para a saída e derrotar o chefão da fase. Chester pode correr e matar inimigos pulando em suas cabeças. Ele morre com um golpe, a menos que ele tenha um pacote de Cheetos à sua disposição. Neste caso, ele recuperará toda a saúde.
