Featuring 12 playable characters throughout history, including a Roman Centurion and a priest during the period of Inquisition, the story follows Alexandra Roivas, a young, beautiful woman whose grandfather's body has just been found in his dark and moody mansion, bloodied and torn apart, his head missing. When she learns that the local police have been unable to uncover any clues regarding the obvious murder, she decides to take matters into her own hands. It's when she arrives at her deceased relative's mansion to investigate that the tale of Eternal Darkness truly begins.

Espagnol Eternal Darkness: Santy's Requiem se lleva a cabo desde una perspectiva en tercera persona. Mientras el modo de juego opera de manera similar a Resident Evil, peleando contra monstruos y resolviendo acertijos para desbloquear otras ubicaciones, Eternal Darkness mantiene diferencias notables en el estilo del modo de juego, algunos de los cuales lo distinguen de otros juegos de horror/supervivencia de su época, entre las que destacan un mapa que rastrea la trayectoria del jugador y el sistema de inventario que almacena armas y elementos que pueden usarse para resolver los acertijos, algunos de los cuales se pueden combinar con otros objetos e incluso ser encantados con magia para diferentes efectos.

Con 12 personaggi giocabili nel corso della storia, tra cui un centurione romano e un prete durante il periodo dell'Inquisizione, la storia segue Alexandra Roivas, una giovane e bella donna il cui corpo del nonno è stato appena trovato nella sua villa oscura e lunatica, insanguinata e fatta a pezzi, gli manca la testa. Quando viene a sapere che la polizia locale non è stata in grado di scoprire alcun indizio sull'evidente omicidio, decide di prendere in mano la situazione. È quando arriva alla villa del suo defunto parente per indagare che la storia di Eternal Darkness inizia davvero.
