Humanity has spread across the terraformed planets and satellites of the solar system. Colonies drift though the upper regions of the Jupiter gas clouds and cities have been carved out of asteroids. Mars, the seat of power among the inner worlds, is home to a powerful, despotic Russo-American Mercantile (RAM). Its goal: The enslavement of the solar system.

But what of Earth?

The ancesteral home of mankind now struggles to overcome the devistation of war and pollution. All hope for a return to its former glory lies in a daring band of rebels, the New Earth Organization (NEO) led by Buck Rogers.

Now you and the members of your team can join Buck and his allies to rid the solar system of RAM tyranny!

Portugais Esta versão de Buck Rogers: Countdown to Doomsday mantém a maior parte da história e a principal jogabilidade da versão de computador de mesmo nome, mas difere em vários aspectos relacionados com a jogabilidade e a interface.

As principais diferenças envolvem redução de algumas das habilidades e tipos de equipamentos presentes na versão do computador. Também foram impostas limitações sobre a criação de personagens: há apenas quatro classes de personagens (Warrior, Rocketjock, Medic, e Rogue) e três raças (Human, Desert Runner e Tinker) para escolher, em oposição a cinco classes de personagens e seis raças na versão de computador.

Você joga como um grupo de novos recrutas para a organização NEO (Nova Organização da Terra) que está lutando contra a facção RAM (Mercenários Russo-Americanos), um grupo de tiranos que anteriormente governavam o sistema solar. O jogo começa com você impedindo a invasão da sede terrestre por mutantes alienígenas. Depois disso, você transita para uma base de comando orbital onde você assume várias missões diferentes.

Na versão de computador, a visão em primeira pessoa e os gráficos pseudo-3D foram usados ??para navegação, enquanto o combate era visto a partir da perspectiva isométrica. Nesta versão, a visão isométrica é usada tanto para navegação quanto para combate, o grupo controlado pelo jogador visível da perspectiva de terceira pessoa.
