Alsbald wird Marche in eine Fantasiewelt transportiert, wo er seine verlorgen gegangenen Freunde finden muss. Der Titel kombiniert viele Elemente des Originals. So müsst ihr euch um das Inventar und die Kampfkraft eurer Teammitglieder kümmern. Mit Hilfe des Linkkabels könnt ihr zudem zusammen kämpfen, Gegenstände tauschen oder einen Clan gründen.

Non è un sequel diretto di Final Fantasy Tactics, FFTA combina i molti elementi dell'originale tattico con un tocco leggermente moderno e una trama originale per il GBA. In qualità di leader del clan, devi gestire la tua squadra (dalle loro abilità di combattimento e inventario a ogni battaglia che affronti).
Sia le tue armi portatili di base che la magia sono a tua disposizione, con la possibilità di evocare mostri per supporto. Due giocatori possono collegare i GBA per le battaglie, lo scambio di oggetti e anche i membri del clan.
