Anglais Majin Tensei is a tactical role-playing game that incorporates many elements of other Megami Tensei games into a different genre. The player must lead a party of summoned creatures to claim the victory over hostile demons who invaded a futuristic city named New Tokyo. The gameplay is round-based. The player issues commands to the party, moving around the battle field, using magic or attacking enemies physically. Battles are displayed on separate screens and proceed automatically; their outcome is determined by the parameters of the participants. The player creates the main hero by allocating available skill points and then improves his attributes manually when leveling up.

Français Majin Tensei est un jeu de rôle tactique qui intègre de nombreux éléments des autres jeux Megami Tensei dans un genre différent. Le joueur doit diriger une équipe de créatures invoquées pour vaincre les démons hostiles ayant envahi la ville futuriste de New Tokyo. Le gameplay se déroule par tours : le joueur donne des ordres à son groupe, se déplace sur le champ de bataille, utilise la magie ou attaque physiquement les ennemis. Les combats sont affichés sur des écrans séparés et se déroulent automatiquement, leur issue dépendant des paramètres des participants. Le joueur crée le héros principal en répartissant les points de compétence disponibles, puis améliore ses attributs manuellement à chaque montée de niveau.
